“I will strengthen them in the LORD and in his name they will live securely.” (Zechariah 10:12)
Ask the LORD for rain in the springtime; it is the LORD who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone. The idols speak deceit; diviners see visions that lie; they tell dreams that are false; they give comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep oppressed for lack of a shepherd. My anger burns against the shepherds, and I will punish the leaders. For the LORD Almighty will care for his flock, the people of Judah. From Judah will come the cornerstone, from him the tent peg, from him the battle bow, from him every ruler. I will strengthen them in the LORD and in his name they will live securely, declares the LORD.
The Catechism identifies the cornerstone coming from Judah as the figure of Christ who is the cornerstone of the Church (CCC 756).
Brothers and sisters, they wander like sheep for lack of a shepherd. The idols lie, the diviners see nothing true, the dreamers give empty comfort: every substitute for the living God leaves the flock wandering. Ask the LORD for rain. He sends the thunderstorms. The cornerstone, the tent peg, the battle bow: all from him. There is no structural element of the life of faith that comes from anywhere else.
Lord God, strengthen us in your name and let us live securely. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
