"The works of the Lord are all good, and he will supply every need in its season." (Sirach 39:33)
A father's anxiety about a daughter keeps him awake at night: lest she pass her prime unmarried, or when she is married, lest she be disliked; while a virgin, lest she be seduced and become pregnant in her father's house; or having a husband, lest she prove unfaithful, or though married, lest she be barren. Keep strict watch over a headstrong daughter, or she may make you a laughingstock to your enemies, a byword in the city and notorious among the people, and put you to shame in public gatherings. The works of the Lord are all good, and he will supply every need in its season. No one can say: this is not as good as that; for everything proves good in its appointed time. So now sing praise with all your heart and voice, and bless the name of the Lord.
The Catechism identifies the goodness of all God's works as the foundation of the contemplative praise that sees the Creator in all creation (CCC 299).
Brothers and sisters, the works of the Lord are all good, and he will supply every need in its season. The anxiety that fills the father's night is real, but it does not have the last word. Every need will be supplied in its appointed season. Sing praise with all your heart and voice. Bless the name of the Lord - not only when the season is obviously good, but in trust that every season will be revealed as good in its appointed time.
Lord God, the works of your hands are all good. You supply every need in its season. We bless your name with all our heart and voice. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
