"Do not delay to turn back to the Lord, and do not postpone it from day to day." (Sirach 5:7)
Do not rely on your wealth or say: I have enough. Do not follow your inclination in pursuing the desires of your heart. Do not say: I sinned, yet what has happened to me? For the Lord is slow to anger. Do not delay to turn back to the Lord, and do not postpone it from day to day; for suddenly the wrath of the Lord will come upon you, and at the time of punishment you will perish. Do not rely on dishonest wealth, for it will not benefit you on the day of calamity. Do not say: who has power over me? For the Lord will surely take vengeance on you.
The Catechism identifies the presumption that delays repentance as one of the sins against the Holy Spirit - the assumption that time is unlimited and conversion can be postponed (CCC 2092).
Brothers and sisters, do not postpone it from day to day. The return to the Lord you have been planning for a better moment keeps waiting for a better moment that never arrives. The slowness of divine anger is not a signal that time is unlimited - it is space given for repentance. Use the space. Turn now. Today is the better moment.
Lord God, we will not postpone turning to you from day to day. We turn now. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
